Scrapbook of printed sketches illustrating various episodes in South Carolina history from 1700s through the 1890s (published, Oct.-Nov. 1915, in a Columbia, S.C., newspaper). Intended as a brain teaser, these illustrations were published without captions to challenge the readers' grasp of history. Volume compiled by Margaret Babcock Meriwether and includes her comments taking issue on the historical accuracy of two of the sketches. Time periods represented include Colonial, Revolutionary, and early national periods; War of 1812; Mexican War; Civil War; Reconstruction; and "Recent Period," with images of the Charleston Earthquake of 1886, the 1893 Sea Islands hurricane, the Charleston exposition of 1901-1902, and the Darlington Riot, here identified as "Darlington War."
